The Mercury Cycle

Mercury is a toxic element that is harmful to health and the environment.  It can damage the central nervous system, thyroid, kidneys, lungs, immune system, eyes, gums, and skin.

Found in the earth’s crust, it is released into the atmosphere and our environment.  Over time it gets into our oceanswaterways and the aquatic food chain, contaminating many large species of fish that we consume.

Mercury is used in some industrial processes and the production of some products, including fluorescent light bulbs, batteries, electrical switches, and skin-lightening creams.

The prolonged exposure to mercuryadded food and products and the failure to properly dispose of mercury-added products is a severe threat to our health and well-being and our environment.
